A surfing trip in the middle of winter? Well, maybe this is a great opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Escape the penetrating cold and enjoy some surf sessions in a spectacular new place.

Winter is here, and with it, the cold. The water is colder every day and the lower the temperature gets, the less you feel like getting in to surf. Feeling that chill as you enter the water and seeing how all the muscles of your body go numb while trying to enjoy a “good” swim is common this time of year.

But what if you don’t like the cold but love to surf, without having to wear a super thick neoprene wetsuit that limits your every move? Well, we could go without surfing (which would be quite frustrating if you really like to surf), or choose some warm destination in which to enjoy your surf sessions without worrying about the winter cold.

Here, we propose a surfing destination for those who want to escape the cold and surf in the bright sunshine.

Undoubtedly, one of the best surfing destinations in the middle of December is one of the 7 jewels of surfing tourism in the Canary Islands: Lanzarote, Reserva de la Biosfera, the northernmost and easternmost island of the Canary archipelago, which offers countless spots and high quality waves to practice your favorite sport. Waves break left and right along its coast, providing different alternatives for all levels of surfing.

Famara

Located in the town of Teguise, it is found on the northwest part of the island. Almost isolated, with its white sand, Famara is undoubtedly the quintessential beach to surf at and where you will find different peaks along a spectacular coastline of almost 6 km. With the “Chinijo” archipelago in the background, (La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montaña Clara), it makes for the perfect setting to have some epic surf sessions. Calima surf school Famara

In terms of accessibility, Famara boasts privileged access compared to other spots on the island, where you normally have to walk through the rocks to get in. You’ll appreciate it.

With an average temperature between 65 and 75 degrees throughout the year, this exotic and charming place offers exceptional conditions to practice numerous water sports like surfing, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), kite surfing, etc. all year long.

At Calima Surf, we’ve offered this experience since 1996, with all the necessary ingredients for you to leave wanting to come back and do it all over again.

Famara is your destination if you want to surf and enjoy nature while you meet people from different parts of the world who, like you, are looking for that “something” that you don’t find just anywhere.

Whether you come alone or with a friend, in Famara you will have an experience that only those who have gone through this idyllic paradise can understand.
